The Leas is the address people picture when they think of Folkestone, and it is the one that needs most planning — handsome buildings, a clifftop position, and almost nowhere to put a vehicle.

The buildings

Mansion blocks

Substantial period stock on the streets running back from the front, much of it conservation area and a good deal converted into flats. Original boards, tall rooms and a stair that turns.

Parking and the season

Controlled along the front and behind it, with very little off-street standing on the period stock, and noticeably tighter in summer. Early starts, an agreed loading point, and a shuttle from the nearest legal spot where the vehicle cannot get close.

The wind
